Really off the beaten path but worth it!….

Eastern Region of Jaen in Andalusia:
In June, we went to Spain to visit with some of our vendors. One adventurous trip took us to Orcera to visit Potosi Olive Oil factory. Orcera is not on very many maps. Going east from Jaen, we traveled through alternating Olive Tree groves and Wine vineyards with little villages tucked in between. Early June is when the Olive trees are blossoming so the air had a sweet fragrance throughout our travels. As we traveled the landscape turned into hills and finally entering the mountain region: Parque Natural Sierras de Carzola.
This region has high mountains with beautiful valleys for agriculture. It’s laced with rivers, is very green and much cooler compared to the western part of Jaen.
The most note worthy landmark was this stunning village built at the top of a mountain with a castle at its peak. The village is Segura de la Sierra. Traveling up the switchback road, you reach a beautiful white wash village that is built into the steep mountainside. In the center of town is a gothic style church that was built on top of Roman ruins. The town itself has breathtaking views of the valleys below. It has twelve historical sites, with its Castillo Mudejar as the focal point.
We intend to go back to this region and highly recommend it to others who enjoy the outdoors with historical sites thrown in!
